Masses for Life Begin March 25

23 parishes celebrate start of Novena for Life

On the 25th of each month, for nine months, parishes throughout the Diocese of Venice take time out to pray for a greater respect for human life.

This Novena of Masses for Life begins March 25 on the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord. There will be 23 host parishes for the first month and dozens of others will hold Masses in the months to follow.

The concept of a Novena of Masses for Life started in 2008 when only a few parishes celebrated the Masses each month. Two years later the effort has grown to include parishes in each of the 10 counties of the dioceses.

The Masses are supported by Laity for Life, a Naples-based organization which promotes the Church stance on life issues, particularly on the subject of abortion.

The specially-designated Masses on the 25th of each month will present a special opportunity to meditate on the progressive development of Our Lord in His mother's womb and pray for all unborn babies and their mothers.

The novena of Masses concludes with the Feast of the Birth of Jesus on Christmas Day.
