What a Month for Verot Sports
School excels in multiple sports
In the span of less than 30 days the sports teams of Bishop Verot High School accomplished the near impossible by excelling at multiple sports at the same time.
The Verot Vikings won a state championship in boys soccer on Feb. 20 and finished the season ranked No. 5 in the ESPN Rise Fab 50 winter sports poll.
The boys basketball team reached the regional finals before falling. Not to be outdone, the girls teams did the same, reach the regional final in soccer, volleyball and basketball.
Success on the field is the result of an academic discipline that the school requires of all of its students, whether they are athletes or not.
Bishop Verot Principal Father Christian Beretta, Oblate of St. Francis de Sales, said the athletes excel because the school offers opportunities for its students to become a family.
“We are a close-knit group,” Father Beretta said. “We share our faith and we work together from the first day a student walks on campus until they day they graduate.”
This unifying effort translates to sports where the students play harder so they don’t let their teammates down.
The Class 3A State Championship soccer team had 10 seniors which helped carry the team to victory, all playing together for four years and some even longer.
