New ultrasound machines donated by Knights
Bringing young people together to share in their faith can have a lasting impact for those who open themselves up to the loving Word of God. For the second year in a row, high school youth gathered for a weekend retreat lead by members of NET Ministries (National Evangelization Team based in Minnesota). Nearly 100 young women and men represented seven different parish youth groups from throughout the Diocese of Venice.

Peace and Justice Director retires after 16 years
Neil Michaud took a picture of the sign in front of the Catholic Center office as one last reminder of the 16 years he committed to the Diocese of Venice. Michaud retired as Director of the Diocesan Peace and Justice Office in late April content in the knowledge that through his steadfast dedication thousands of people were educated on many key issues which motivated them to take a more active role in the Church.
2012 Catholic Charities events most successful ever
The generosity and dedication of the many unsung supporters of Catholic Charities was on full display during numerous events and fundraisers from January through March.Huge crowds participated in each of the main events which include: the Catholic Charities Ball and Mardi Grass in Sarasota County; Wine Tasting in Venice; Boots and Bandannas in DeSoto County; Venetian Ball in Lee County; and the Emerald Ball in Collier County.
Catholic graduates prepared for future
Each year the three Catholic high schools in the Diocese of Venice send into the world some of the best prepared students. The Class of 2012, which includes students at St. John Neumann in Naples, Bishop Verot in Fort Myers and Cardinal Mooney in Sarasota, will have 300 graduates. The Diocesan graduates go forth having received an excellent education based on Gospel values. Among the graduating class, 99 percent have plans to go on to higher education armed with a combined $13.6 million in scholarships, after dedicating tens of thousands of hours of service in the community.
The Eucharist - Deepening ones Union with Christ and the Church
Little girls in beautiful white dresses. Boys in their first suit and tie. It must be First Communion time! Each spring the Catholic Church has the joy of seeing many young people privileged to receive our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament for the first time. What a glorious event! All Catholics remember their first communion - the moment when they first receive Jesus in an intimate way and are united to Him through this great Sacrament.
Catholic Charities receives top rating
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice Inc. has received the top rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest and most-utilized independent evaluator of charities. This is the third straight year, and eighth out of the past nine years, Catholic Charities has reached that rating. The 4-Star rating was given for Catholic Charities’ sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.
